About
I'm Alex Calder. I work at the intersection of AI, organisational design and practical delivery. My background is in agency leadership, product development and client strategy — mostly in higher education and the public sector. I've run operations, built consulting products, managed client portfolios and trained teams. Usually several of those at once.
What the career taught me
Every role I've had, the same problem kept showing up. The gap between what a strategy document says and what actually happens when a team tries to use it. Between what a product is supposed to do and what people actually do with it. Between what leadership wants and what operations can deliver.
I got good at sitting in that gap. Translating between layers. Making strategy specific enough to execute and execution connected enough to matter strategically. That's not a skill you find on a job description, but it's the one that keeps being the difference.
AI made the gap wider and more urgent. Organisations that used to have months to figure things out now have weeks. The people who can move between "what should we do?" and "here's how it works on Tuesday" are the ones creating the most value.
Background
15+ years across agency operations, consulting and product roles. Specialisms in higher education marketing, AI enablement, organisational transformation and conversion rate optimisation. I've designed and delivered AI training programmes, built scoring and assessment tools, and led strategy engagements for universities, cultural organisations and public sector bodies.
